I know that I am to talk about apples and bananas, but the XTi is a bit expensive.

I would be happy with the PowerShot A640 from Canon. He has good size sensor, but is actually a fraction of the size of the sensor XTi. You can open and / or shutter speed or just leave it on automatic. This is a 10 MP camera and is rated very good. If the price is a little more, check out the 8MP Canon A630 reduced.

Do not forget to note that the reviews, many pages long, not to stop after the first page. Check the sample images, too. You can enlarge these images in full resolution by clicking on the link under the photo. Then you have the cursor in the empty space right of the picture and click once.
